Outlier’s colorful atmosphere brings to mind Seattle's past, while street art, a wall-sized beer-can mural and recycled bottle-cap creations give the space a touch of grunge veneer.
A native of upstate New York, Shawn Applin’s first culinary influence came from his grandmother and the rustic Sunday suppers she used to prepare for the family. Later, after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in New York, Shawn moved out west and put that ethos to work at restaurants including San Francisco’s Fog City Diner and Scala’s Bistro, and Seattle’s Flying Fish, where he worked alongside James Beard Award-winning chef Christine Keff. When he’s not in the Outlier kitchen, Shawn prefers to spend his time hitting the links or sailing the Caribbean.

Our passion is telling the story and creating a sense of place through artwork – putting the crown on the design and delighting the viewer. Our studio in Sausalito specializes in custom fabrication on canvas, wood, metal of all kinds, sculpture, venetian plaster, ceramics, digital printing and framing services as well as, on-site execution of murals, custom wall covering and sourcing of vintage objects. Our team of artists and makers collaborate based on the needs of a project and bring any design to life!
Jake was born in 1988 and raised in the Columbia City neighborhood of South Seattle. He currently works as the assistant to the artist Peter Millett. Duties include the fabrication of steel and wood sculptures. He loves the great outdoors, sailing and swimming in Lake Washington, playing soccer and basketball, surfing, eating good food with his family and friends, and the Seahawks.
Shawn Man Roland is an artist educated in Philadelphia at the University of the Arts. Shawn Man currently resides in Berkeley, CA. His work incorporates a broad range of skills and material knowledge inspiring Paintings, Murals, Decorative Finishing & Design, Music, and Sculpture. He has had years of experience working for several types of studios enabling him to travel throughout the country working on private homes, restaurants, themed environments, and gallery exhibitions. Working with his clients, Shawn Man enjoys the creative process. Combining knowledge from Painting/Illustration, Sculpture, Music, Model & Mold Making, Architecture and a growing knowledge of technology Shawn Man is able to think both within and out of the box.
